PRIMARY PURPOSE: To aid the teacher in providing students with the opportunities to realize their academic potential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education / Certification:
- High School diploma or GED
- Eligible for certification as an Aide I or II
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work well with all children
Experience:
- Some experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist with the preparation of instructional materials.
- Assist the classroom teacher in individualizing instruction.
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional
- Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
- Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teacher.
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
- Support administrative policies and rules governing students.
- Inform the teacher to any special needs an individual student may have.
- Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities as needed.
- Coordinate with teacher to perform follow-up activities with students.
- Assist in maintaining records of student performance, attendance, and skills mastery related to job assignment and/or assignment by the principal.
- Maintain records related to job assignment.
- Assist in clerical duties such as typing, duplication, and filing materials as time permits.
- Participate in professional development, attend staff meetings & serve on committees as required.
- Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct.
- Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
- Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.
- Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
- Support and follow administrative and board policy.
- Represent the school system to the community in a positive, professional way.
- Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
