Primary Purpose:

To direct and evaluate the learning experience of the pupil in activities sponsored by the after school program. 

 

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. Pre-Service Training Certificate or documented child care experience
  3. CPR and First Aid Certified or willing to get certified within 30 days of being hired
  4. Meet the employment guidelines set forth by Santa Fe Independent School District

                       

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Plan and supervise a 30 minute homework time and snack time.
  2. Utilize effective teaching skills to address student’s different learning styles (modifying instruction to meet individual needs).
  3. Utilize assertive leadership to carry out a classroom management plan and enforce the school discipline management plan.
  4. Know and comply with the minimum standards set by DFPS.
  5. Maintain an attitude of respect for students by demonstrating consistency, interacting with children in a positive manner, showing appreciation for children’s effort and accomplishments, and fostering a cooperative rather than competitive atmosphere.
  6. Maintain accurate student files including attendance, discipline and academic records.
  7. Supervise and be closely acquainted with students including knowing names and ages of all children, knowing students individual differences and abilities, number of students in your group, and location of every child at any given time.
  8. Comply with all sanitation guidelines as required by state law including child hygiene and facility cleaning.
  9. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  10. Participate in staff development trainings, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  11. Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct.
  12. Keep abreast of research studies in the field of teaching and afterschool programs.
  13. Keep informed of and comply with state and district policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
  14. Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
  15. Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.
  16. Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
  17. Support and follow administrative and Board policy.
  18. Represent the school system to the community in a positive, professional way.
  19. Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and some heavy lifting.

 

 

Terms of Employment:

 

Work year established by the Board; salary according to current schedule.  Must receive at least 24 continuing education credits per year.

 

Evaluation:

 

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
