JOB TITLE: Transportation Technician 3
REPORTS TO: Transportation Tech Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Transportation
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist in keeping vehicles in operative condition for the safe transport of school children and employees of the school district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education / Certification:
- Must possess Valid Class B-CDL (Commercial Drivers’ License)
Special Knowledge/Skills/ Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be able to follow verbal instruction
- Must have an acceptable driving record according to Texas Education Agency standards.
- Must have knowledge of vehicle maintenance repair.
- Computer literacy and competency using associated fleet software preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Other:
- Repair and maintain all automotive equipment.
- Assist in mechanical problems and works with bus drivers and their equipment.
- Check for proper fluid level, in all units daily.
- Develop fleet maintenance software efficiency.
- Use assistive equipment where available.
- Keep tools and shop clean and neat.
- Assist Technician Supervisor in evaluation of options by advising most economical repair of equipment, with an understanding that student safety is our priority
- Lift or assist in lifting equipment, tools, and supplies as needed for transportation operations. (25 lbs. or more)
- Report for work and stay on the job eight hours per day unless emergency arises which requires additional duty as instructed by the director.
- Assist in other areas of transportation department as time allows.
- Keep computerized records of repairs and schedules of maintenance required on all equipment.
- Maintains parts supply and keeps parts room neat and clean.
- Assist with annual and ongoing inventory of parts room.
- Keep assigned bay, bench, personal tool storage, and other bays used neat, clean, and free of clutter.
- Ensure that incomplete repairs that carry over to the next day are organized in such a manner that another technician can complete the job in the event of an absence.
- Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
- Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.
- Uses professional information discreetly and judiciously.
- Support and follow administrative and board policy.
- Represent the school system to the community in a positive, professional way.
- Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

- Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Lift or assist in lifting equipment, tools, and supplies as needed for transportation operations. (25 lbs. or more)
Terms of Employment:
- Work year established by the board; salary according to current schedule.
Evaluation:
- Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
