Primary Purpose: To assist in supporting students educational process by addressing acute and chronic healthcare needs in accordance with goals and directives of the school and district.

Qualifications:    

Education/Certification:

  1. High School Diploma or General Education Certificate (GED)
  2. BLS Certification in First Aid and CPR/AED

 

Special Requirements:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age
  2. Must complete orientation/trainings
  3. Must agree to authorize Santa Fe ISD to conduct a Criminal History Search
  4. Must have good moral character
  5. Willingness to obtain certification in vision, hearing, acanthosis nigricans, and scoliosis health screenings

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  1. Must be able to maintain emotional control and focus under stress.
  2. Must be able to follow verbal and written directions and can establish effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  3. Ability to maintain effective clinic management strategies.
  4. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

                                   

Experience:                      

  1. Experience working with children preferred.
  2. Experience working in healthcare preferred.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Use student and staff confidential information discreetly and judiciously.
  2. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  3. Report to campus Substitute Coordinator upon arrival of assigned day and determine possible need for the next school day.
  4. Exemplify high standards of professional and ethical conduct.
  5. Assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases.
  6. Treat minor ailments and injuries, administer medications, and conduct skilled tasks within scope of practice or as appropriately delegated and as directed by local school Board policy.
  7. Provide first-aid and CPR and initiate emergency procedures, as necessary.
  8. Notify parents of student accident or illness, supervise student until parent arrival if unable to class, and secure medical care for students in emergency cases if parents or emergency contacts cannot be reached.
  9. Document, maintain, and file all daily clinic visits, medications/procedures, physician orders, parent notes, immunizations records, and other records
  10. Administer health screenings as required by law or as needed and make referrals, as necessary.
  11. Review student immunizations records for enrollment and continued compliance.
  12. Alert teachers to individual student health information, as necessary.
  13. Assist in interpreting health information and policies to employees, students, and parents.
  14. Act as a liaison between the school, physicians, parents, local and state health agencies and organizations.
  15. Assist in acquainting families with medical and health resources and services available to them.
  16. Keep informed of, support, and follow administrative and Board policy.
  17. Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
  18. Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.
  19. Represent the school system to the community in a positive, professional way.
  20. Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Working Conditions:

Duties performed typically in school clinic setting, but may include classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, pulling, and pushing is required. Other physical activities may be required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Verbal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide assessments and treatments is required. Regular contact with other staff members and building administrator(s) is required on assigned days as a substitute.

 

 

 

 

Terms of Employment:

 

            Work year established by the Board; salary according to current schedule.

 

Evaluation:

 

                Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
