PRIMARY PURPOSE: To aid the teacher in providing students with the opportunities to realize their academic potential.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education / Certification:

  1. High School diploma or GED
  2. Eligible for certification as an Aide I or II

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  1. Ability to work well with all children

 

Experience:

  1. Some experience working with children

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assist with the preparation of instructional materials. 
  1. Assist the classroom teacher in individualizing instruction. 
  1. Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional
  1. Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
  1. Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teacher. 
  1. Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips. 
  1. Support administrative policies and rules governing students. 
  1. Inform the teacher to any special needs an individual student may have.  
  1. Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities as needed. 
  1. Coordinate with teacher to perform follow-up activities with students. 
  1. Assist in maintaining records of student performance, attendance, and skills mastery related to job assignment and/or assignment by the principal. 
  1. Maintain records related to job assignment. 
  1. Assist in clerical duties such as typing, duplication, and filing materials as time permits. 
  1. Participate in professional development, attend staff meetings & serve on committees as required. 
  1. Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct. 
  1. Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance. 
  1. Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel. 
  1. Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
  1. Support and follow administrative and board policy. 
  1. Represent the school system to the community in a positive, professional way. 
  1. Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons. 
  1. Perform other duties as assigned.
