Description

Primary Purpose:  Under the direction of the classroom teacher, the Behavioral Assistant will provide support to all students, including but not limited to students with behavioral issues. The Behavioral Assistant will implement comprehensive, positive behavioral support plans and effective behavioral management strategies. The position will provide support to the classroom educator in classroom management strategies within the natural classroom environment.

 

Qualifications:        

 

Education/Certification: 

  1. High School Diploma or Ged
  2. 48 hours college credit or equivalency exam

 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:  

  1. Ability to work well with children
  2. Ability to follow discipline plans

 

                                               

Experience:     

  1. Some experience working with children

                                                        

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups, and varied abilities.
  2. Model and implement appropriate behavior interventions within SFISD’s MTSS/RTI procedures.
  3. Collect reliable data on each student. Track interventions and strategies utilized to keep student while supporting student.
  4. Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  5. Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment.
  6. Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  7. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and adults.
  8. Work with the campus RTI administrator and campus teams in the implementation of data collection systems, discuss the effectiveness of interventions, strategies, and support, and contribute to future.
  9. Assist the general education classroom teacher in all aspects of classroom instruction and behavior support.
  10. Ability and willingness to work with students who have needs and/or aggressive behaviors.
  11. Support students throughout the school day including passing periods and lunch.
  12. Supervise and provide appropriate assistance to students in general education and special education throughout the school day with the possibility of supervising a student on transportation to and from school.
  13. Consult and collaborate with site and district staff as needed.
  14. Participate in RTI meetings as appropriate.
  15. Maintain appropriate documentation, records, and reports.
  16. Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
  17. Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.
  18. Support and follow administrative and Board policy.
  19. Represent the school system to the community in a positive, professional way.
  20. Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.
