Description

Primary Purpose: In a support role to district police officers, provide safety and security services for faculty, staff, students, and visitors to Santa Fe ISD.

Qualifications:        

Education/Certification:

  1. High School diploma or GED
  2. Applicants must be a US citizen
  3. Valid Texas Driver’s license
  4. No family violence convictions
  5. No class A misdemeanor or felony convictions
  6. No class B misdemeanor conviction within the last ten (10) years
  7. Not ever been on court-order community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor.
  8. Not been on court-order community supervision or probation for a Class B within the last ten (10) years from the date of the court order.
  9. The selected applicant will be required to pass a drug screening test, medical examination, psychological and emotional examination along with a criminal background.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  1. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), spreadsheets and websites.
  2. Good interpersonal skills
  3. Ability to clearly read, write, speak, and annunciate the English Language
  4. At least 1 year of security, law enforcement, or corrections experience

           

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Promote lawful behavior and protect the welfare of students, faculty, and staff as a uniformed presence on campus.
  2. Perform metal detector screening process.
  3. Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons, approach suspicious person and/or notifies police as appropriate, may confront and/or detain violators, as required of until police arrives.
  4. Perform video surveillance to monitor behavior, secure buildings, and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order during events, and enforce regulations.

Assist the professional staff, police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situations.

  1. Reports suspicious behavior, security breaches, facility and safety hazards, emergency situations, and unlawful activities to the police dispatcher and district police officers.
  2. Provides traffic direction and control and foot and vehicle patrons as assigned.
  3. Maintain radio communication with department personnel.
  4. Write and submit incident reports as appropriate.
  5. Must continually demonstrate a high level of mental stability and professionalism.
  6. Deals with sensitive information in a discreet and professional manner by maintaining confidentiality                                   
  7. Assist with the Campus Safety & Security Audit Process.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or his designee.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

 

Maintain emotional control under stress, Continuous walking and standing. Exposure to vehicle exhaust. Work outside and is exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather. May be subject to extreme physical acts of others (i.e. restraining students involved in altercations).

 

Ability to wear and carry job specific equipment to include Security uniforms, equipment belt, handcuffs, flashlight, and two-way police radio.

 

The employee must reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

 

Individuals must be free from physical impairments that with or without reasonable accommodation would interrupt continuous performance of a shift lasting from a minimum of eight hours.

 

Work is performed in a confined environment under high stress and plays a critical role in Public Safety delivery. Must gather information from individuals who may be excited, abusive, and foul mouthed, incoherent, intoxicated or hysterical.
